Tis the Season for the 2013 Holiday Gift Guide Bootcamp

‘Tis the Season to Get Your Product in Holiday Gift Guides

It happens every year. You pick up a magazine in November, realize holiday coverage has started and wonder if it’s too late to submit your product. You scramble to submit your product, praying to the retail gods it’s not too late.

Or, worse, you’re hoping an editor will ring and ask you to submit your product.

It doesn’t work that way.

By the time the kids are back in school, you’ve already missed the submission window. Most big-name magazines start working on their holiday coverage 6 months in advance, and it’s gone to print by the time the leaves turn. We’re talking publications as diverse as Lucky, Real Simple, O Magazine, Ebony, Better Homes & Gardens, Popular Science, Men’s Health and Saveur.

Don’t let another year pass you by.

I created the Gift Guide Bootcamp for makers and designers craving a holiday feature in your dream magazine. This January, you could be collecting clips of your media coverage, or you could just watch jealously as another maker gets all the press.

The Gift Guide Bootcamp is for you if:

  • You want more sales this holiday season.
  • You want to get your product featured in a holiday gift guide.
  • Your product is for sale online or at a retailer with an online or national presence.
  • You can ramp up production to meet a spike in demand (and you’re eager for the extra income and attention!).

I’ve taught artists and creatives and entrepreneurs like you get the coverage of their dreams in media as diverse as The Daily Candy, Design*Sponge and Get Fresh Magazine. The most fun I ever had at a PR agency was putting together a holiday feature for WGN-TV in Chicago. I’m prepared to share all the insider secrets I’ve collected in 10 years in working with the media.

I love Brigitte’s teaching style — candid and almost conspiratorial (like she’s letting us into the PR world through the back door).

- Alison Gresik, author and creativity coach

We’re going to get you ready to submit your product in just 4 days.

Because the submission window spans July – August, it’s imperative that you take action now. By the end of our 4 days together, you’re ready to submit your product to the magazine editors responsible for holiday gift guides. You’ll learn:

July 15: What’s your gift guide profile?

July 16: Discover your ideal magazine.

July 17: Find the right contact and be confident you’re sending your pitch at the right time.

July 18: Make your product submission shine.

In addition to the live training, you also get my magazine contact cheat sheet and an email template to use when you’re crafting your submission.

I wanted to learn how to pitch my rain boots to magazines and bloggers in order to get media attention. Brigitte delivered a brilliant master plan to me. My rain boots have already been included in a Daily Candy Atlanta round-up.

Don’t be jealous this January.

The Gift Guide Bootcamp is a 4-day program starting on Monday, July 15th. We meet for an hour each day at 4:30 p.m. Pacific, where I’ll be guiding you through the steps to submitting your product to holiday gift guides. You’ll have plenty of time to ask me anything about how you submit your product to magazines. And each call is recorded, so you can listen again next year when it’s time to submit again!

FAQs.

When does the bootcamp start? The Gift Guide Bootcamp starts Monday, July 15th and ends Thursday, July 18th. You’ll be able to download the audio recordings of the live calls to listen to at any time.

Are the calls live? What if I miss one? You can attend each call live at 4:30 p.m. Pacific time, and they will last an hour. You’ll have the recordings in plenty of time to catch up before the next day, but if you’re busy during the week, you can go through all the material at your convenience.

How much time will the bootcamp take? Each of the 4 calls is an hour, and you’ll also receive action items to get your product submission ready. The assignments will take an additional 4-5 hours to complete, and it will be fun! Who doesn’t love flipping through magazines?

Will you be running this bootcamp again in 2013? Because the window for submitting your work for holiday coverage is so short, I will not run this bootcamp again in 2013. Some magazines will be accepting submissions through September, and I’ll be sharing my trick for discovering the ideal time to submit in the bootcamp, but most people will want to get their pitch out by the end of July.

Is this bootcamp only for product-based businesses? While the class is geared toward getting product into holiday gift guides, I am including information on how businesses focused on entertaining, tabletop, stationery, packaging or personal style can break into holiday round-ups. If you’re not sure whether the bootcamp is right for you, email me at hello at brigittelyons dot com.

Can I really submit my own product? Don’t I need a publicist? Yes, you absolutely can submit your own product to magazine editors! The tricks a PR person uses are available to anyone — and you’re going to be shocked how straight-forward it is.

Will you guarantee that my product will get featured? The reason media coverage is coveted is precisely because the media is under no obligation to cover anyone — that’s what makes it so much more valuable than paid advertising. What I can guarantee is this — I will reveal to you exactly how PR pros get their clients into holiday gift guides through a straight-forward, easy-to-follow process that you can immediately apply to your own business.

How long will I have access to the materials for the bootcamp? You’ll have access to the bootcamp site for 30 days and can download recordings to listen to again and again.

Other questions? Email hello at brigittelyons dot com.
